Speaker: Lauren Acosta, Assistant Clinical Professor

Lauren Acosta is an Assistant Clinical Professor at The University of Arizona College of Nursing where she teaches community and population health nursing to entry-level nursing students and serves as one of the lead trainers for The UArizona Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner (SANE) Program. She began her SANE training in 2014 and is currently a certified SANE-A contracted with the Southern Arizona Center Against Sexual Assault to provide care for adult and adolescent survivors of sexual violence. Her past research focused on the post-rape experiences of undocumented women, who encounter many barriers to care. Lauren envisions a future where all survivors have access to needed health care services and recovery resources. With that goal in mind, she enjoys engaging with the Tucson community, UA students and faculty, and other health professionals to raise awareness about sexual assault prevalence, health care options for survivors, and the role of the SANE.
