With women accounting for nearly half of the total population in China, gender equality has consistently been listed as one of China’s national priorities. The government’s decades of efforts toward promoting women’s all-around development have led to some fruitful outcomes; yet women’s roles within family and society remain gendered. In this presentation, Dr. Jia Wang, Human Resource Development researcher of Texas A&M University, will introduce China’s legislation for protecting women’s equal rights and interests, and unpack how the current legal and political structures have promoted or hindered women’s advancement.
