Casa Alitas and Clinica Amistad provide immediate and long-term care to people who have migrated to our borderlands. This presentation will give an overview of the current status of migration in our region, the strengths and benefits that people who migrate bring to our community, and how these two organizations utilize a community-based model of care to offer welcoming and inclusive care.


Speakers: 

Lisa Kiser, DNP, CNM, WHNP

Clinical Assistant Professor,

Biobehavioral Health Science Division

Lisa is a clinical assistant professor at the University of Arizona College of Nursing, where she works two days a week in faculty practice as women's health nurse practitioner and teaches three days a week in the Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) program, where she specializes in teaching women's health. 

Diego Javier Piña Lopez

Casa Alitas Shelter-Program Manager

Diego is a second year PhD student at UA-College of Public Health. He has a masters degree in social work and public administration from the UA. He currently works as the program manager for Casa Alitas Shelter for asylum seekers, most of whom are Central Americans.
