Why are there such large disconnects between the numbers of women and people of color doing academic research and the percentages of those groups engaged in commercialization? What do those disparities look like and how can we begin to address them?

Michael Johnson received his bachelors from Duke University. He obtained a Ph.D. in Biochemistry and Biophysics from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. For his postdoctoral training, he went to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. Dr. Johnson joined the faculty of the University of Arizona in 2016, and in 2019 published "Hiring of Underrepresented Minority Assistant Professors in Medical School Basic Science Departments Has a Long Way To Go."
